Delhis air quality has severely declined, plunging into the "very poor" category as the city becomes engulfed in a dense layer of smog. The Air Quality Index (AQI) recorded a reading of 349, with specific areas like Aya Nagar and Anand Vihar experiencing even worse levels, crossing the 400 mark. The combination of dust particles, smoke, and dense fog has created a hazardous situation, significantly reducing visibility across the city.

The heavy smog has had a profound impact on daily activities, particularly affecting air travel. Numerous flights at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport faced delays and cancellations due to poor visibility. The airports operations were hampered as the thick haze made it challenging for pilots to navigate. This disruption extended to neighboring regions, including parts of Punjab, where similar issues were reported.

Environmental experts attribute the worsening air quality to several factors, including increased vehicular emissions, construction dust, and burning of crop residue in nearby states. The seasonal drop in temperature combined with reduced wind speed has exacerbated the accumulation of pollutants, trapping them near the surface. Authorities have issued health advisories, urging residents to limit outdoor activities, wear masks, and use air purifiers at home.

Despite government measures, like the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP), aimed at curbing pollution, the current scenario underscores the ongoing challenge of managing air quality in the region. The thick blanket of smog has turned Delhi into a virtual "gas chamber," highlighting the urgent need for long-term solutions to address the recurring air pollution crisis.
